Warthog hunting in South Africa ({{ totalTours }})

Warthogs are one of Africa’s most comical animals, no wonder Pumba the Warthog played one of the lead roles in Disney’s “Lion King”. They derive their name from the wart-like protrusions on the sides of their head. Males have two pairs and the females have a single pair. Both sexes have razor sharp tusks from the constant meshing of the tusks while feeding. Warthogs with the largest tusks are generally found on properties with sandy soils. Their tusks are used as digging tools when feeding on roots and may often be worn or broken in areas with rocky soils. They are found throughout South Africa but the best trophies and highest densities of warthogs occur in the Limpopo and northern KwaZulu-Natal Provinces. For the hog hunting enthusiast, look out for the package deals offered in these areas. They are attracted to water for drinking and wallowing purposes making for some great bowhunting opportunities. Their meat is delicious making them a highly sought after table venison. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required. Warthog trophies exported to the USA need to comply with the USDA trophy import regulations.

1x1: Eastern Cape Free-range Hunt South Africa

ACCOMMODATION: FARM GUESTHOUSE as listed 4 STAR THATCH LODGE upgrades available at an additional fee of $150 per hunter The Ranch sits on an escarpment (2200 feet above sea level) and has four unique biospheres within half an hour’s drive. This unique change in biospheres results in huge animal diversity. the landscape and habitats vary from deep wide valley bushveld with thick riverine bush, home of the Eastern Cape Kudu as well as Cape Bushbuck, Nyala, Warthog, and Bush pig. The sides of the valleys/canyons make for great vantage points. A lot of time is spent at theses elevated points glassing for trophies. On the plateau above the valley lies the savanna and scattered woodlands. This is home to species such as Impala, Sable, Zebra, Waterbuck and Mountain Reedbuck. These plateaus also make great vantage points for glassing and the start of many long stalks. The savanna gradually gives way to the long rolling Bedford plains which were once the place of vast animal migrations across the Eastern Cape. These plains are where Springbuck, Blesbok and Black Wildebeest are found and often ambushed from behind the endless anthills which make for good hiding places. These plains give way to the Kaggaberg Mountain range with valleys and box canyons, home to the Eland, Cape Bushbuck and Kudu.

Bushveld and Plains Game Hunt South Africa

Our hunting season runs all year round, with certain species being more successful during certain times of the year, enquire with us directly for the best times of year to book. All huntable species are subject to availability and we reserve the right to remove one of the species on offer according to the sustainability of that animal at the time. Clients will be designated a professional hunter for the duration of their stay. Most of our hunting is undertaken using the ‘spot and stalk, ‘stand’ and ‘still’ method. Our hunts are fair-chase and we pride ourselves in ethical and respectful hunting practices. Shots vary between 100-300 yards, we recommend you practice shooting from the long bipod shooting sticks as they are often used. We have traditionally been a rifle-hunting destination but in recent years, the bow-hunting trend has made its mark at us too. Success has been recorded with Impala, Bushbuck, Warthog and Bush Pig have also often featured in the bow hunters’ bags. Species are abundant so no traveling beyond the reserve is required to begin the hunt, enabling multiple attempts at these species with the bow during the entire safari. Various other species can provide hunters with surprise opportunities.
