Blue wildebeest hunting in South Africa ({{totalToursString}})

Blue Wildebeest is known as the “Poor Man’s Buffalo”, due to its looks and brute strength. When wounded, it has been known to attack hunters. They have long dark manes and a beard, silver-grey bodies with darkish vertical bands on their front quarters earning them their alternative name of Brindled Gnu. The Golden and Kings Wildebeest, a bred colour variant of this species is now available for hunting. Historically they only occurred in the low altitude bushveld but have now been introduced throughout the country, even in the high altitude central grasslands known as the Highveld. They carry a disease fatal to cattle which requires that all owners take the necessary veterinary precautions; in most cases this means the construction of a high fence to keep the animals separate from one another. Not only is it a commonly hunted trophy animal available throughout the country, the Blue Wildebeest is popular with meat hunters. Their meat is not highly rated but pound for pound, weight and value wise they are a good buy and make good biltong (a type of jerky). Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.

Looking for best hunting trips for You...

Why do I see different types of prices?
There are two types of hunts on our platform: Package Hunts and Customizable Hunts. Package Hunts are fixed offers. Customizable Hunts usually allow you to select species and other parameters (number of hunters and guests, etc.) and then you can see the final price of your hunt.

"Package price" tag - this price tag is shown for package hunts, and it's a final price for an offer.

"Price from" tag - we show this tag for customizable hunts either when you search for particular species or when there is only one type of species in an offer. In both cases we include the minimum trophy fee available for this type of animal. It means that you see the final price of the offer, but you can also customize it (e.g. you can include a bigger trophy into your hunt).

"Daily rate fee" tag - this price does NOT include trophy fee. For example, if you are searching for a destination and we can't figure out the species you want, then we show this tag. You will need to include trophies from a hunt page.

1x1: Eastern Cape Free-range Hunt Eastern Cape, South Africa

ACCOMMODATION: FARM GUESTHOUSE as listed 4 STAR THATCH LODGE upgrades available at an additional fee of $150 per hunter The Ranch sits on an escarpment (2200 feet above sea level) and has four unique biospheres within half an hour’s drive. This unique change in biospheres results in huge animal diversity. the landscape and habitats vary from deep wide valley bushveld with thick riverine bush, home of the Eastern Cape Kudu as well as Cape Bushbuck, Nyala, Warthog, and Bush pig. The sides of the valleys/canyons make for great vantage points. A lot of time is spent at theses elevated points glassing for trophies. On the plateau above the valley lies the savanna and scattered woodlands. This is home to species such as Impala, Sable, Zebra, Waterbuck and Mountain Reedbuck. These plateaus also make great vantage points for glassing and the start of many long stalks. The savanna gradually gives way to the long rolling Bedford plains which were once the place of vast animal migrations across the Eastern Cape. These plains are where Springbuck, Blesbok and Black Wildebeest are found and often ambushed from behind the endless anthills which make for good hiding places. These plains give way to the Kaggaberg Mountain range with valleys and box canyons, home to the Eland, Cape Bushbuck and Kudu.

Karoo Dream Hunt 2x1 '2020 Eastern Cape, South Africa

The Eastern Cape boasts 6 out of 7 vegetation biomes and is the most ecologically diverse of South Africa's provinces. This diversity in turn supports a large number of plains game species; from kudu in savannah bushveld, to klipspringer in the craggy mountain peaks and bushbuck in the coastal forests. The Eastern Cape offers an unrivalled variety of hunting opportunities. The area from Uitenhage to Steytlerville is acknowledged as having the highest density of kudu in the world. Every year, 25,000 kudu are hunted in the Eastern Cape. We enjoyed a 100% success rate for kudu in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. During this period 24 out of 24 hunters who had a kudu on their wish list shot a trophy kudu, some chose to hunt a second one.

African Dream Hunt Limpopo, South Africa

We hunt various concessions totalling over 30000 acres. Each concession has different terrains, some mountainous, some with rivers and small dams, that each contribute to providing different hunting environments and hosts many of the species in their natural preferred habitats. In autumn and winter, we can be out all day hunting due to milder temperatures. In the summer months, hunting occurs early morning, beak over midday and continue late afternoon till dusk. More foliage and cover, tracking and hunting after some fresh rainfall, perfect night-time temperatures and all the baby calves running around makes summer hunts even more special. Bowhunting is done mostly from a blind, at a waterhole or a feeding spot. Rifle hunters normally hunt walking and stalking but can use a blind if the species or situation requires it. Dangerous game hunts are only done on foot, and our long-range hunts are either walk and stalk, or from a perch, or mountain.
